FRIENDS OF CRAB ORCHARD MEETING MINUTES 10/02/08 Meeting called to order at 6:40pm. In attendance: Roy, Rose, Clark, Rhoda, Perry, Dave G, Linda, Colleen, Steve, Rosalita, Vicki and Dan and Neil from the Refuge. Clark moved and Dave 2nd minutes approval with correction of “trees not 1 tree”. Dave moved and Clark 2nd Treasurer report for approval. Old Business: It is a great opportunity for Friends to be at Hunting and Fishing Days. We sold $368.86 in merchandise. 30,000 were in attendance. For future years we know what sells best. 240 assisted with the fall clean up. One 20 yard and two 8 yard dumpsters were filled up. Neil is coordinating planting of the trees re: the Modern Woodsmen grant. Trees may go to Martha’s Theater, Rocky Bluff Trail and Visitor’s Center Pond. $500 will go towards materials for benches and their foundations. Eagle Scout(s) will build and assemble. Everything looks up to date for the website. Ron has been taking pictures. Steve is asking everyone to review it with input monthly. www.friendsofconwr.com. New Business: Friend’s conference is February 21-23, 2009 in Washington DC. Linda will get with Jen from the Refuge about grants. Neil brought in a rough draft of the Federal Public Lands newspaper Connect US that we are co-sponsoring. Each agency (USFWS, USFS, and USACE) will get a CD to print copies from. It will be published twice a year. We will fund the 2nd issue.
Committee Reports: Maps are being developed for the bike trail which begins in Marion and go to Wolf Creek Road. Neil reported there is a proposal for a bike route with the expansion of Rt. 13. Photo contest has about 120 entries, only 1 child’s entry. Oct. 12 is the reception. As part of the annual meeting election of Officers were held. The slate consists of Steve May for President, Perry Young as 1st Vice President, Roy Frank as 2nd Vice President, Rose Howerton as Treasurer and Vicki Lang as Secretary. Colleen moved and Rose 2nd that
the slate of Officers be accepted and voted in. USFWS report: Deputy Refuge Manager position closes tomorrow followed by Visitor Center Manager who will supervise Park Rangers. Deer archery season opened Oct. 1st. Soon there will be 50-60 USFWS employees on site at CONWR for training. Skip motioned and Dave 2nd for each group to receive 2
gifts from the Friends. Dan leaves for 3 week detail at Headquarters. The state will house the Federal and State Fire Dispatch Center just north of the Visitor Center on Rt. 148. Meeting adjourned at 7:40pm. Annual membership is $10. Next meeting is November 6th at 6:30pm at the Visitor’s Center. Please bring a friend or family member. |
